Hi! How are you doing these days?
It is getting more autumn-like. Japanese people say that autumn is the appetizing season. We can eat a variety kinds of delicious foods in autumn!! Sweet potatoes are one of those examples. This is the best season for sweet potatoes, so I bought it and made a sweet potato salad ;)
The way of making it is like a potato salad. I used sweet potatoes instead of using potatoes.
It was so sweet and tasted good :)
By the way, people from other countries don't express automn like "appetizing season". Only Japanese say automn like that. This is bacause the change of the seasons is quite noticeable in Japan, so they are more sensituve to season's food than people from other countries. I felt the differences of cultures between countries are so interesting when I knew the reasons for each. And I'm proud of Japanese beautiful seasons :)
See you!

Writing Essay 2nd draft
Should People Get Married?
Though the age of the people who get married is rising these days, a number of people think that they want to get married. It seems that marriage has positive images because wedding party is so splendid and the bride and the groom seem so happy. However, marriage has not only positive points but also negative points to get married.
First, we need a vast of money to get married. According to the survey of Zexsy, the Japanese popular magazine which informs wedding information, it stated that “In Japan, the national average of the money set aside for marriage is about a total of three million yen”(The survey, 2009). This shows that we can’t get married without setting aside enough money for it. Moreover, if we get children after getting married, we need the expense for bringing up them. It is difficult to live with other people if we don’t have some stable jobs.
Another negative thing is that the time we can use freely will decrease. When people get married, their partner will always be in their home, so they might have to spend the free time with their partner much longer than before they get married. And people who got married also have a duty to bring up their children. Therefore, the time to spend with their family will gradually increase and they will hardly have time to enjoy own hobby or something.
In contrast, marriage can make people feel secure. According to “National Institute of Population and Social Security Research”, it said, “The top of the merit of marriage is getting spiritual comfort. This account for about 35 percent of the population of both men and women.” If you are a single man or woman, there is no person in your home after coming home and you will feel some loneliness. Marriage gives family members. People will feel secure and be able to live delightfully with family.
In addition, marriage will also effect on job. Marriage means having some family members and a power to live with them and enough money to do it. Married people will get social credits. In general, many companies need the people who have ability to get along with other people, so married people will be able to get credit from their boss or they will get some new jobs.
Getting married can be both good and bad. It might be bad thing if people aren’t on their own in society because we need some money to get married. In addition, the free time will be shorter than before getting married. On the contrary, married people get a delightful life because of their own beloved family. They also get a credit in their jobs and they will be able to live more enjoyable lives before getting married. Marriage is one of the biggest events in our long life. We cannot divorce easily, so marriage should be done after careful consideration.

Book Report
I'd like to write my Book Report for IE CORE class. I read "Cry Freedom".
Briley John, Cry Freedom: OXFORD BOOKWORMS, 120pages,
Responding to the plot:
(e)I like the part best when Steve Biko and Donald Woods met for the first time. Steve Biko has been officially banned by the South African government and is not permitted to leave his defined banning area. Donald Woods, the journalist, was critical of Biko’s political views, but he was formally against Biko's banning, so he decided to see him. At first, Woods didn’t have a good image to Biko, but as he comes to understand Biko's point of view, a friendship develops between them and they began to work together against the government. I was moved by their friend ship. Though their skin colors were different, their thoughts about apartheid were same and they could help each other. When I finished reading this part, I was so happy.
Setting: The late 1970s, during the apartheid era of South Africa
Point of View: This story is told from third person.
Conflict: Steve Biko and Donald Woods were in conflict with the white people, especially the South African government.
Climax: After a political speech at a gathering outside his banning area, Biko is arrested and later beaten to death while in police custody. Woods works to expose the police's complicity in Biko's death, but his efforts to expose the truth lead to his own banning. He thought if he still in this country, South Africa wouldn’t be changed. So, Woods was decided to escape to other country, disguised as a priest and he and his family flied to the Botswana to continue to struggle against apartheid. This is the climax of the story.
Symbol: The friend ship is the symbol of the story. Biko and Woods were trying to struggle against the South African government with a close bond of affection between them. They fell into the awful predicaments many times, but they didn’t gave up. Finally their strong thoughts and friend ship were won.
Irony: The irony of this book is when Biko was dead while in police custody. Though he had a strong thoughts about apartheid, he couldn’t won the government’s power while he was alive. He had been dead before the apartheid was changed.
Theme: The theme of this book is the strong will to abolish discrimination against the black people. The story described the pathetic sight of the apartheid and Biko and Woods were trying to abolish it. Though Biko was dead, Woods tried to continue this movement and never gave up. This strength told us never give up whenever you were in the bad place.
Reflecting on this story:
(b) The book setting is the apartheid era of South Africa and many pathetic sights were described. People were so miserable and were beated by the South African government. Japan is peace now, so I was shocked to know that environment. If I were in that place, I couldn’t stand it. I won’t forget this story and history.
I also watched the film last night. It was so impressive, too!

cooking
Hello my friends :)
Today, I'd like to tell you about my hobby, cooking. I like to cook because I'm happy when I heard people who ate my dishes say "Thank you" or "It tastes good". Moreover, cooking always uses my head. When I go to the supermarket, I usually have to consider which ingredients are more cheaper or what are rest of the refrigerator and what I need for today's dinner. It is a hard work, but this is also a pleasure of cooking, I think :)
I hadn't cooked before I came to Sagamihara and started to live alone. This is because my mother is what is called a housewife, so she always cooked every meal for family and I didn't have to cook myself. However, after starting living alone, I started to think I want to become a domestic woman who can do housework all by myself. Usually, I don't have to cook because my dorm supply every meal, but when I go to my friend's house, I always practice it and do hard to improve my ability.
I want to show you some dishes which I made.
★hamburger and potato salad
This humburger is so healthy because I used tofu as ingredients ;)
★cabbage roll
Cabbage roll is one of my favorite dishes<333
I'm a beginner of cooking, so I still cannot cook without referring recipe. I want to improve my ability of cooking little by little through practicing it.
See you ;)

school festival
Hello, my friends!
Yesterday, I joined the school festival in Sabamihara.
I opened a stall in the campas with my dormitory friends.
The name of our team is
SGM38<333
The name SGM38 is derived from AKB48, which is the name of the famous Japanese pop music group consisted of 48 pretty girls :)
And the mean SGM is SAGAMIHARA.
The number of member of this dormitory was 38 girls and our dormitory was in Sagamihara (it's next to school♪), so we named it SGM38.
We made original T-shirts for this festival!
Those were all desighned by our members.
And we wore check skirts like AKB48 members.
Yesterday, all of us wore them when we sold churros ;)
We sold churros at a 200 yen apiece.
And we had many services to the customers!
The team name was derived from AKB, so we showed dancing AKB's songs to people who bought our churros ;)
Those services made our churros sell like hotcakes!!
And at last, we could sell all 600 churros before the end time of the festival :-)
I was so happy that many many people who came School Festival bought our churros!
And thanks to all of the SGM members!
This success was the result of our whole efforts!!
I'm proud of a member of this dormitory.
Yesterday would be one of the most impressive days for me.
They are my best friends :)
I hope we can join school festival in next year.
See you next time★!

summer vacation
Hi! How are you doing?
Today, I'll talk about my memories of summer vacation.
In this summer, I returned my hometown to get a driver license. It took about a month to get it.In August, I went to driving school almost everyday and learned how to drive a car.I also learned academic subjects, especially road manners. That caused me a great deal of trouble!! I failed the exam of academic subjects several times :'( But, thanks to my effort, I finally pass the graduation examination on August 30 and got a driver license♪ Though I can't drive a car now because I don't have my own car, I want to enjoy driving when I return my family home :-)
In September, after getting a driver license, I went back to Tokyo. As soon as I returned, I went to Tokyo Disney Sea with my boyfriend on September 10th ;) The day when we went there was his birthday.
And it was right in the middle of the Hallowin season<333
This was my first time to go TDS in Hallowin seasson.
Everywhere in the park was filled with cute decoration.
Mickey and other characters were wearing masks and mysterious dresses.
It was so beautiful!!
I also enjoyed riding many attractions.
We could ride 7 or 8 attractions :-D
Most attraction entertained me, except one attraction...
That was "Center of teh earth", the roller coaster which fell from high point.
I don't like such attraction, so after I rode it I burst into tears.lol
Next time, I won't ride it...
It was sooooooooo scary for me!
Anyway, we could spend a good time♪
Next time I wannna go TDL!!
Those were my impressive memories of summer vacation.
I could enjoy this summer very much!

Karate
Hi, friends!
How are you?
Today, I went to Waseda University to practice karate.
As I mentioned last article, I belong karate circle in Waseda.
Most of the members of this circle is consisted of Waseda students, but this circle is intercollegiate circle(the circle which anyone can join), so the person who dosen't belong Waseda like me can also join it !
It had been a long time since I practice it last, so I was very tired after the training...
But, we had a drinking party afer hard practice!
In Takadanobaba, there are many Izakaya.
So, students of Waseda University can often go there after classes.
How I envy them!!
There are few Izakaya in Fuchinobe to the contrary...
Apart from the problem of the number of Izakaya in Fuchinobe...thanks to my Senpai, freshmen could drink free today!!
I cannot drink much, but I had a very enjoyable time with my circle members :)
Everyone in this circle is so kind to me though I'm not a Waseda student.
I love karate and my circle members♪♪
I can hardly wait for the next practice!!

new blog!!
Hello,friends and Mr.Richardson.
This is the first time I write this blog , so please let me introduce myself .
My name is Yurika Arita.
I'm from Niigata.
Do you know "Tenchijin", the last year's period drama?
The stage of that drama is Niigata, and Niigata became more popular after it had stareted.
And Niigata is a very beautiful place with a lot of nature and sight spots.
We have a lot of snow in winter, so Niigata is famous for winter sports!
If you like skiing, you should come Niigata this winter!
Anyway, I love my hometown and now I really miss there.
I have several hobbies.
I like playing sports, especially karate. I've practiced it for about 10 years though I'm not good at it... Now I belong a karate circle in Waseda Univ. I'm not a good player, but I'll practice hard and do my best.
And I love calligraphy!! Calligraphy is part of my life and I cannot live without it! I've stareted it when I was 5or4 years old because my aunt and grandma was studying it. When I was a highschool student, I belonged calligraphy club besides karate club. I learned not only skills of calligraphy but also history of calligraphy and I was so interested in it!! I once wanted to major in calligraphy in the university, but finally I decided to major in English because I'm interested in it for a long time and wanted to improve my ability to communicate in it. Someday I want to teach calligraphy to foreign people using English, that is one of my dream :)
There are more things taht I want to write, but I'll write it next time...
